Street lighting enhances the public safety, security and quality of life of the City of Oviedo's residents, business owners and patrons. Currently, street lighting is delivered by three seperate service providers: Florida Power and Light (FPL), Duke Energy, and Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC). Unlike the City's other utilities, which have their own dedicated funding sources, street lighting is funded from various revenue sources within the City's general fund and the Local Option Gas Tax (LOGT). Historically, the City has paid its service providers for rental, maintenance, and energy costs associated with the existing street light infrastructure. In order to expand the infrastructure and upgrade existing lights to Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology, the City of Oviedo is proposing the creation of a dedicated revenue source for street lighting similar to existing utilities. For further information, please review the FAQ's.
