A Neighborhood Meeting to review the results of the traffic calming study with residents of the affected area in and aroud Bentley Woods was scheduled for Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at 6:30 pm at Oviedo City Hall in Council Chambers.

On June 18, 2007, following a traffic calming study, the Oviedo City Council has approved a plan and recommendations for the permanent installation of traffic calming devices in and around the Bentley Woods subdivision.  Now it is up to the residents to decide if they too want to make the temporary devices a mainstay in the community that has seen increasing cut through traffic and speeders as Oviedo and Eastern Seminole County have grown.

In November 2006, City Council gave staff authority to initiate a traffic calming study in Bentley Woods. Residents in the subdivision were given the opportunity to vote on the temporary installation of several kinds of calming devices, including traffic circles and speed tables.  Fifty-one percent of the residents approved the installation, which ran from December 2006 to March 2007 and was followed by a 90-day study period.  Some of the devices led to a reduction in speed by approximately 12 mph.  The posted speed in the neighborhood is 20 mph, but drivers were most often clocked at 35.1 mph.  While speed was reduced, there was no drop in the volume of traffic.  A meeting with the Bentley Woods HOA representatives will be scheduled to discuss the results of the study, and then property owners in the affected area will be given a chance to vote on whether they want traffic calming devices permanently.  Sixty-five percent, or 156 of the 240 property owners would have to approve the plan.
