The Lawton Elementary School Sidewalk Project is currently in the design phase by VHB Engineering Consultants. Back in September of 2010, the City submitted a "Safe Routes to School" Infrastructure Application to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for funding consideration of the Lawton Elementary School Sidewalk Project. The project involves sidewalk improvements along several roadways within the vacinity of Lawton Elementary School to improve walking conditions for students attending Lawton elementary School, as well as pedestrians. All proposed improvements are within a two-mile radius of the school.
In April 2011, the City was advised that the project was approved for funding by FDOT for design in the amount of $103,500. The City entered into a Local Agency Program (LAP) Agreement with FDOT for the project and issued a Work Order to VHB for design services.
The project will be eligible for construction funding in FDOT's fiscal year 2014 funding plan which becomes available in July 2013.
