Divisions
Oviedo Police is a Community Oriented Police Department meaning our officers conduct outreach, interact with our citizens and uphold all aspects of law enforcement and what that entails. Our officers strive to keep Oviedo one of the safety communities in Central Florida by getting involved with programs and outreach.
The Oviedo Police Department Records office handles all the reports generated by the officers and acts as a warehouse and distribution center for processing police records. The primary responsibility of the Records Specialist is to ensure all police reports comply with Florida State Statutes.
Request for Public Records
Email Police Records or call 407-971-5726 to request a copy of the public records request form. This is optional and not required; however, it will assist in accurately fulfilling requests.
When completing the Public Records request form, if you do not have the case number, please include the name(s) of the person(s) involved, the date and time of the incident, or the address to which we responded. Please note a name and contact number for records pick-up.
The Community Relations division works directly with the community getting to know our residents through fun interactions. Community Relations coordinates events with organizations, schools, daycares, businesses and the city to be present at events and educate the public about Oviedo Police while getting to know our officers and command staff. The Community Relations division organizes larger events such as National Night Out, Cops and Cars for Kids, Fishing with a Cop, Shop with a Cop and the annual Community Police Academy.
Patrol officers enforce local and state laws including city ordinances to protect life and property. These officers are on the streets, responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service. They investigate criminal activity, traffic accidents, investigate other crimes while talking to victims and suspects. Patrol officers also help direct traffic at accident sites, weather-related conditions and city events, while interacting with the public to promote healthy community relations.
CID, or Criminal Investigations Division investigates crimes reported where detectives take over the case to solve. Detectives investigate serious crimes such as assaults, robberies, homicides, online criminal activity and fraud/fraudulent activities. The primary goal of CID is to solve crimes and apprehend criminals. Our detectives interview suspects, victims and witnesses to put the pieces of the puzzle together, building cases against criminals and making sure they end up behind bars. Detectives are crime scene investigators, conduct surveillance, review records, conduct undercover operations, obtain warrants and will testify in court.

The motor units consist of motorcycle patrol officers specifically trained to handle traffic enforcement, patrol, escorts and community events such as clearing the streets before a parade and National Night Out. Motors officers require certification in basic motors officer courses and must continue ongoing in-service training and annual re-certification.

Oviedo Police is proud of our award-winning School Resource Officers stationed in all Seminole County Schools within the Oviedo city limits. The team consists of certified SROs who interact with the kids daily, help during crises and provide services some children may not otherwise have access to. The SROs are the front lines of defense should an incident arise at their schools and are trained in many crises. The officers go above and beyond to help our area kids while providing programs that enhance community relations.
The purpose of the Oviedo Police Department School Resource Officer Program (SRO) is to provide assistance for the students, teachers and staff in any areas that relate to law enforcement, by a visible, active police presence on campus.
Unit personnel educate students, parents and school staff with regard to the law and law enforcement processes, assisting individual students with alternative solutions to personal and law-related problems and providing drug abuse and gang avoidance counseling to youth. Additional duties performed by the SROs include protecting personnel and property on school campuses, providing classroom instruction, investigating crimes that occur on school grounds and enforcing laws.
The School Resource Officer serves as a liaison, between the Police Department, the County Board of Education and the schools providing an information link regarding problems, possible solutions and/or ways to work more effectively together. The Police Department currently has 7 school resource officers assigned to the various schools within the city.

SPECIALIZED VEHICLES
VETERANS TRIBUTE VEHICLE
This vehicle pays tribute to all of our veterans, fallen or alive, to show our support to those who have served this country. Many of our officers are veterans who served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard, making sure freedom is guaranteed for all U.S. citizens. On the hood of the vehicle are names of veterans that are also posted on the wall at the city's memorial tribute at Oviedo in the Park.
ONE PILL CAN KILL
This specialized wrapped vehicle works in our patrol and traffic units to bring awareness to deadly overdoses caused by drugs such as Fentanyl and Oxycodone. These deadly drugs can be mixed into other drugs such as marijuana and cocaine and a user may never even know before overdosing. This vehicle is taken to community awareness events to teach about the dangers of drug use and educate children and families about what drug addiction and overdoses do not just to a family, but to communities as a whole.
