Water Conservation
Email Jay to request a copy of the City of Oviedo Irrigation Schedules for potable water and reclaimed water.
In an effort to help alleviate the growing demand of the Florida Aquifer, the City of Oviedo employs a full-time Water Conservation Coordinator. This position, along with the City Council and City Staff, is partnering with residents, commercial customers, the St. Johns River Water Management District, and other utilities to create “Water Stewards.” This is accomplished in the following ways:
Water Restrictions
Following SJRWMD new rule change to State Statue Rule 40C-2 F.A.C., effective November 1, 2009, irrigation is only allowed on one day a week during the winter months and two days a week during the summer months. The City adopted Ordinance No. 1477 on November 16, 2009, to enforce Rule 40C-2 F.A.C.
Implementation of the award winning H2Oviedo Incentive program
In 2009, the City received the William A. Schwartz award for Innovation. There were 36 homes participating in 2009. Those homes saved 1.8 million gallons of water, which is a 40% savings per household.
New standards for New Construction: City Ordinance No. 1428 was adopted on January 22, 2008. This ordinance reinforces the City's goal for new residential and commercial projects to be more Florida Friendly in using “Water Wise” Landscaping practices. Along with other changes, the City is on its way to becoming the leader in water conservation.
Reclaim
As the City strives to save potable water, City Council adopted Ordinance No. 1479 on January 4, 2010. This ordinance allows irrigation watering three (3) days a week year round. The schedule applies to reclaim customers only.
